SBA24® is the most studied sea buckthorn oil in the world

The health effects of sea buckthorn oil are known to traditional Chinese medicine. These effects have been confirmed during 45 years of testing in the University of Turku. All clinical western research on sea buckthorn oil has been conducted on SBA24® oil manufactured by Aromtech.

Plenty of research has been carried out on the natural vitamins, antioxidants, essential fatty acids and plant sterols contained in sea buckthorn. The sea buckthorn berry is unique in that both its seeds and fruit pulp contain oil.  

The nutritional value of the sea buckthorn berry is one of a kind. It contains hundreds of different compounds, the best-known being vitamins A, C, E, F, K and B, carotenoids, flavonoids, biotin, folic acid, and various dietary minerals and trace minerals, as well as valuable fatty acids.

Nutritional value of the SBA24® oil

Oli is the most valuable part of sea buckthorn berry. The oil from seeds and fruit pulp contains several good fatty acids in glyceride form, such as α-linoleic acid (omega-3), linoleic acid (omega-6), oleic acid (omega-9) and rare omega-7 fatty acids, such as palmitoleic acid and vaccenic acid. Oil is also rich in oil soluble vitamins such as vitamin E and A.  

The sea buckthorn research of the University of Turku Department of Biochemistry and Food Chemistry has achieved significant new results in terms of the health effects of sea buckthorn oil. The most studied areas are the good effects on mucous membranes health, such as dry eyes, dry mouth and intimate dryness, and also the skin hydrating efficacy.

Combined positive effects

Recent studies have confirmed that the bioactive compounds of sea buckthorn have synergic effects on health. Instead of individual nutrients, the positive effects shown by studies on cardiac health, dry eyes and inflammations are more likely to be the result of the combined positive effects of the compounds in the berries and oil.
